Biography

headshot of Katie MillerKatie Miller was born in New Hampshire in 1984, and grew up in Boca Raton, Florida and suburban Sacramento, California. At five, she decided to become an artist and then taught herself to draw. During adolescence, Miller created her first independent body of work and began to study art history. Miller began showing her work as a teenager in Sacramento.

After high school, Miller moved to Baltimore to attend Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In the summer of 2006, she studied in Umbria, Italy, at the International School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. At MICA, Miller majored in painting and minored in art history. She graduated magna cum laude in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Miller’s work has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art,  and is represented in public and private collections nationwide. She is a 2008 winner of the Wynn Newhouse Awards.

Miller earned her MFA at the Hoffberger School of Painting at MICA and in the Spring of 2011. She lives and works in Baltimore County and is represented by Conner Contemporary Art in Washington, DC. Her first solo exhibit is planned at Conner in September 2011.
